Pallet packaging line for plastic containers: automation and CE marking

October 6, 2026

Overview of the automatic pallet packaging line for plastic containers integrated by Robotec Packing

Robotec Packing has contributed to the design, installation and commissioning of a pallet packaging line for a leading company in Spain’s plastic container industry. The installation connects the palletising robot’s output to strapping, top sheet application, wrapping and labelling, delivering each pallet to a position ready for collection by an electric forklift.

The project features a Messersì RTA automatic stretch wrapper with a rotating platform and top press. Alongside equipment integration, Robotec Packing has handled the conformity assessment and CE marking process for the entire line, addressing the safety of the complete installation as part of the project.

An automatic pallet packaging line for the plastic container industry

The company manufactures plastic containers for consumer and industrial applications, including jerrycans for sectors such as cleaning products, chemicals and food. In this environment, the end of line must prepare palletised loads for handling, storage and dispatch while maintaining continuity with production.

The solution brings the different packaging stages together in a coordinated flow. Each station has a specific role: strapping secures the load, the top sheet provides protection from above, the wrapper applies stretch film and the labeller identifies the pallet before it leaves the line.

From the palletising robot to forklift collection: how the line works

The packaging cycle begins when the palletising robot finishes building a complete pallet. The load then moves through the following stations:

  1. Vertical pallet strapping machine. Applies two straps to the load before the subsequent packaging operations.
  2. Top sheet applicator. Places a protective sheet over the top of the load before stretch wrapping.
  3. Messersì RTA automatic stretch wrapper. Wraps the pallet on a rotating platform, with a top press that helps keep the load stable during the cycle.
  4. Labelling machine. Applies pallet identification after wrapping is complete.
  5. Outfeed position. The wrapped and labelled pallet is ready for collection by an electric forklift.

Integrating these stages automates the journey from the palletising output to the collection point. The overall design takes account of transfers between machines and the operating sequence so that end-of-line operations run in a coordinated manner.

RTA automatic stretch wrapper with rotating platform and top press

The Messersì RTA automatically wraps pallets in stretch film using a rotating platform. Integration into the line allows it to receive the load from the top sheet applicator and transfer it to the labelling station once the cycle is complete.

In this installation, the top press helps hold the load in place while the platform rotates. This support is useful when packaging palletised plastic containers, where load stability during wrapping must be considered when configuring the process.

Vertical strapping and stretch wrapping serve complementary functions along the same route. The two straps provide restraint, while the stretch film groups and protects the load together with the sheet placed by the top sheet applicator.

Design, installation and commissioning by Robotec Packing

Robotec Packing’s contribution has included solution design, installation and commissioning of the line. Integration connects palletising to final packaging and logistics outfeed, considering both load movements and interaction between the equipment.

In a pallet packaging line, selecting each machine must be accompanied by a study of how it operates within the complete installation. Transfer points, access areas and the collection position are part of this design and shape the installation’s day-to-day operation.

This project reflects our work on industrial packaging installations, with solutions tailored to the product and the needs of each plant.

Safety and CE marking for the entire packaging line

Robotec Packing has also handled conformity assessment and CE marking for the complete line. When several machines are integrated to operate as a single installation, safety must be assessed across the whole system, including interfaces between equipment. Individual CE markings alone do not replace assessment of the integrated line.

As specialists in industrial line safety, we help companies strengthen protection at their facilities through risk assessment, the definition of necessary measures and the installation of safety components. Depending on each project’s requirements, these measures may include fencing, interlocked access points, detection devices and emergency stop systems, with verification of the corresponding safety functions.

Our support extends from the initial study to documentation and the final assessment for the applicable CE marking. Safety is therefore addressed alongside machine integration and commissioning.
